Human Rights activists' meeting took place in Khojend
On July 3 in OSCE Field Office in Khojend a session of Coordination Council, which includes members of HR organizations from Sogdy oblast took place.
Issues on reforming advocacy in Tajik Republic , realization problems of civil and procedural code and current condition of human rights in the country have been discussed.
According to Suhrob Shoev, the senior human rights officer in the Field Office OSCE, quarter sessions of Coordination Council under human rights give possibilities to human rights defenders opinions and information exchange, and joint decision of human rights.
A representative from League of Women-Lawyers in Sogdy oblast, Tajikistan Nigora Akilova noted that today human rights sphere needs reforms as changes in legislation and political situation in the country demands adequate actions from lawyers and independent human righters. She also emphasized the still existing problems of lawyers' access to institutions of confinement - to client and active participation of lawyers in all processes of criminal justice.
In Mahira Usmanova's opinion, the chairman's of Bar of Lawyers, Institute of Advocateship requires reforms since the status of the advocate in the country not at its level till present. Ms. Usmanova, as member of the work group, told about Concept of reforming legal profession and ways on strengthening institute of legal profession in Republic Tajikistan.
The decision to hold a meeting with active lawyers, human rights activists for the further discussion of this concept and to discuss ways of its realization was accepted.
Besides, meeting participants decided to conduct training on effective realization of new civil and procedural code in Tajik Republic on July 11- 12 in business-restaurant “Dusti”.
We remind, Coordination Council in Sogdy oblast was created in April 2006, as non-formal union of human rights defenders of North Tajikistan . The main area of the council is human rights movement strengthening through uniting efforts, resources and possibilities of activist and granting an independent ground for discussing vital problems in the field of human rights.
