Human Rights defenders ask the Kyrgyz President to veto the new Law on Peaceful Assembly
On July 4 coordination and advisory council of HR activists in Kyrgyzstan by the initiative of “Kylym Shamy” Center and the work group under Ombudsmen conducted a round table called “Rights to peaceful assembly is the basis of stable development of Kyrgyzstan ” in Bishkek. Jogorku Kenesh deputies, representative of non-governmental and international organizations, Ministry of Interior, public prosecutors, ombudsmen's apparatus, and other activists participated in it.
As the info agency “Kabar” reported at the round table they discussed the Law “About introducing amendments and additions into the KR Law on “Rights of citizens to gather peacefully without arming, to conduct meetings and demonstrations freely” adopted by parliament on June 13, 2008 and sent to the President. Deputy on initiating introducing amendments to the law Iskhak Masaliev, and another Parliament deputy Sainidin Kurmanov, ombudsman Tursunbek Akun, and human righters Tolekan Ismailova, Aziza Abdirasulova, Dmitriy Kabak spoke out.
The agency brings the data of HR Center “Kylym Shamy” which informed that in the curse of discussion following offers on improving authorities and civil society cooperation were given: more active involvement of international democratic structures and organizations in holding democratic reforms in the country, mass civil education on conducting peaceful meetings and demonstration, accepting ethical code of human rights activists on conducting peaceful gatherings.
Meeting participants sent a letter of address to the President Kurmanbek Bakiev with a request to veto the law and create a group, consisting of Parliament deputies, leaders of non-governmental organizations and independent lawyers who will prepare the final document – informed “Kabar”.
